Mykonian Farm

About Mykonian Farm

The Traditional Mykonian Farm was established in 2012 and offers the ideal adventure by bringing all guests close to the traditional domesticated animals and organic farming of a Mykonian Farm. It is located approx. 3,9 km from the Mykonian Spiti and 7 km from the Mykonos town and port, and through its establishments we aim to grow as many organic products as possible, that will serve towards the hospitality of the Mykonian Spiti guests. In the Farm, guests have the opportunity to spend some time with our lovely animals, such as cows, pigs, chickens, turtles, donkeys and goats. They have also the ability to experience all of our organic plants, to take care of them and to participate in day-to-day farming work. Moreover, they can enjoy a traditional barbecue, tasting the traditional Mykonian recipes and also enjoy the local drinks, as is “raki” and local excellent wines, all produced in Mykonos. In addition, they can participate in the “wine tasting” experience, presented by a professional and referenced “sommelier”. It is a unique and alternative activity, which gives the feeling of the authentic and traditional life of the island.

Facilities

The Village

The islands of Cyclades and specially Mykonos, charm every visitor with the unique Cycladic architecture which has become famous beyond the Greek borders and is based on the simplicity and the purity of constructive forms which are spread in every single house. Small Chapels, Houses, walls are mostly white painted or stone built. At the Mykonian Farm Village you will both see a stone built small house and white painted stone walls, which separate different parts of the farm… the village from the garden, from the stable and from the vineyard. You can enjoy sitting in a nice shadowed area with a long monastery style table overlooking the vineyard and the animals and enjoying the pleasant breeze of the wind, tasting some traditional Mykonian treats and drinking raki. There is another sitting area in the back side of the village close to the children’s playground, where guests also can have a break watching their kids playing with small animals.

The Garden

The garden of the Mykonian Farm is a small charming part of land which is planted with tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggplants, beans, melons, watermelons, basil, oregano, parsley, mint. Our visitors are always amazed trying the tasteful tomatoes which they collect and eat the same moment. The garden is watered with a traditional way with small channels which are around all the plants. All around the village and garden there are many bouganvilleas which give a wonderful colors and nice contrast to white and stone walls.

The Stable

The Mykonian Farm Stable has a separate sections for different animals. Our goats and sheeps are separated from the cow and the donkey and have their shelter closer to the garden. Cow and donkey have their place closer to the building where we have our pig and our rabbits. During the winter months our animals find their protection from the rain and the winds while during the summer we have them free to walk around.

The Vineyard

Mykonian Farm Vineyard is our newest project. Apart from the by now well travelled Assyrtiko grape, other varieties seem to be sprouting up from the dry soil of the Cyclades land. It is a unique experience if you are on the island in September and try to get a sniff of the harvest, of wine making and naturally, of local wines produced by some of the local wineries. We put a lot of care to create a quality wine and have a high expectations for the near future and try to grow also other grape varieties native to the Cyclades, including Monemvasia, Serfiotiko, Athiri, Aidani and Mandilaria. We are trying to use organic and biodynamic methods in order to keep our plants happy and healthy. We do not have a winery, so vinification takes place elsewhere, but visitors are welcome to watch the harvest activities and sit under the pergola right next to the vines, sipping wine and tasting fresh produce from the farm.
